As a side note: The district continually uses the term “blended learning” when talking about “hybrid learning.” They are misusing this term. Blended learning is mixing traditional learning with technology. This has been going on in schools for decades. Hybrid learning has not.
What supplies will I need?
- Headphones or earbuds that are compatible with the school Chromebooks or personal device.
- Personal hand sanitizer and tissues
What days am I required to report to school?
Cohort B reports on Thursdays and Fridays.
Wednesdays are asynchronous.
If you do not know what cohort you are in, you should find it in the parent portal or call the school for that information.
What will Mrs. Evans' classroom be like?
Students will be socially distanced in the classroom and will continue using their devices/Chromebooks during Mrs. Evans’ class. Eventually, Mrs. Evans hopes to have students check out fiction books to read between online assignments.
Students will be discouraged from using their phones in class so they can focus on finishing their assignments and not have homework.
May I continue online learning from home?
What should I wear?
As always, you should dress according to Whetstone’s dress code (no hoods, skin properly covered, pants pulled up, etc.). Ask me sometime why you have it so good compared to where I have worked before. Additionally, I recommend you dress in layers. Some rooms are warmer than others in the building. For instance, my room is usually warmer when it’s cold out and colder when it’s warm out. However, we may be required to open our windows for ventilation (which will let ALL of the allergens in), so who knows how that will affect the temperature/humidity in the room. So, be prepared. Think ahead.
How will classwork be handled in Mrs. Evans' class?
As we transition back to the classroom, I will initially continue to post assignments as I have all year in order to limit changes in expectations. As we settle in, I hope to add choice fiction reading time regularly and may make other changes to the routine according to my professional insight.
Will things be easier when we return?
Yes and no.
You will have in-person access to your teachers. That should help!
You will also have less access to your teachers overall because you’re going from 4 days of live instruction to 2 days.
And transition can be hard.
Push yourself and be nice to yourself. Connect with your counselor if you feel overwhelmed.
